Sunday, January 22 from 1pm-2:30pm.

Presented by Todd Snovel, this presentation will focus on the importance of awareness, understanding, and respect for LGBTQ+ individuals living in our communities. It will include understanding for candidates, elected officials, campaign staff, area leaders, municipal chairs, democratic committee people, and volunteers on identity and intersectionality, considering cultural conditioning, and thinking about moving from knowledge to action to become active allies to all LGBTQ+ constituents.

Sponsored by our friends at Rudolph Clarke, LLC. and presented on Zoom virtually, this FREE training is open to folks in Bucks and Montgomery counties.

WORKING TO PASS NON-DISCRIMINATION ORDINANCES,

ONE MUNICIPALITY AT A TIME!

Since 2015, Firm Partner, Michael Barbiero, has served as a  Board member and legal advisor to the LGBT Equality Alliance of Chester County.   Over the last year, Board President, Julie Mesaros, firm Associate, Sara Johnson Rothman, and Michael have worked on and  met with local municipalities to educate and advocate for the passing of Human Relations Boards and Non-Discrimination Ordinances to extend protection from discrimination to the LGBTQA community.  They have also had the honor of meeting with the Chester County Commissioners, as well as the full Executive Board of the Chester County Association of Township Officials.

Right now, if someone in the LGBTQ community believe they were discriminated against, they can file a complaint with local officials only if the municipality they are in has such anti-discrimination protections.  The state law does not provide for these protections.

As shown on this map, (source: http://www.lgbtmap.org/equality-maps/profile_state/PA)     there is still a lot of work to be done in Delaware, Chester, Montgomery and Bucks Counties.

Michael L. BarbieroStatewide, only 3 counties out of 67 (as of May 2021) have an ordinance prohibiting discrimination based on sexual orientation in private employment, housing, and public accommodations (full protections).

While only 66 municipalities (as of May 2021) have an ordinance prohibiting discrimination based on sexual orientation in private employment, housing, and public accommodations (full protections).

That means only 35% of the state population (as of May 2021) is protected against discrimination based on sexual orientation in private employment, housing, and public accommodations (full protections).

Our firm has collected and reviewed every one of the ordinances passed in Pennsylvania and drafted a model ordinance with options based on best practices from ALL of the counties and municipalities  so that local municipalities can craft an ordinance exactly as they choose to protect their community.
